I wondered if someone could maybe help me with a question about progesterone. My husband and I have been trying unsuccessfully on and off for a couple of years, but we are just now getting started in earnest. I have had regular cycles that are 26-27 days long with 4-6 days of moderate flow, often proceeded by one day of very mild brown spotting.

This last month was the first that I tracked anything other than my period; I did BBT (orally) and cervical position and mucus (both by feel- though to be honest, I’m not entirely sure I was fully accurate on this, since I was struggling to even find my cervix a lot of the time). The cycle was oddly 29 days, but otherwise followed a pretty normal progression. (My temps don’t start until CD 11, because I didn’t previously know I needed to do it at the same time of day.)

Since my cycles have been regular for the past couple years, I initially thought I had ovulated on 2/20 (CD 14) at the light purple. But after putting all my info into the OvaCue chart, it looks like I might have not have ovulated until 2/20 (CD18). If this is the case, does this mean I’ve been having very short luteal phases (a possible sign of low progesteron)? I also read that brown spotting and/or brown bleeding at the beginning of your period could mean that you have low progesterone causing you to shed old blood the next month.

Putting these factors together, would you think I could possibly have low progesterone and if yes, should I look into supplementing with some kind of progesterone? I’m getting conflicting results when I google search- do I need a prescription? I have an appointment to see a fertility specialist, but not until April. Should I count this month out and just sit tight… or?

Thank you for help/advice.
